see i'm fuckin weird so i write in an awkward mixture of past and present because i like words. it usually ends up past i think, but sometimes i just throw big words in there because i LOVE THEM and it ends up to be a present tense sentence.

or, sometimes i go from one to the other. i start out intending to write in usually past tense because that where i feel most comfortable and then by the end of it i'm in present tense, or vice versa.

I am thinking about fan fiction writers, but anyone who writes any kind of fiction can answer. (As far as I’m aware, non-fiction is usually written in the past tense - but if I’m wrong do let me know!)

If you like, explain why in the tags!

When I was young I gathered that all serious works of fiction were written in the past tense (past tense third person to be precise) so that is what i did when I started writing. However my mind was blown by the power and immediacy of Margaret Atwood writing in the present tense so I started to experiment with it myself, and now i strongly favour it. I get the impression that past is still the most commonly used, but I’m prepared to be surprised!

chronic pain: hurts but i can deal, done it since i was young. usually bearable. sometimes popping my joints helps, sometimes it makes it worse, only one way to find out.

chronic fatigue: unfortunate but i can deal, i need to catch up on sleep anyway i guess. naps are great. not in class but naps are great.
